“Yes, they think I must have some… obsession with you.” Dora laughed as if the idea was ludicrous.

“My therapist was one of the worst.” Implying she had sexual feelings for Victor and possibly his rejection caused her to lash out. Ridiculous.

“Of course not, Victor.” Dora smiled, though it just never seemed to reach her eyes. “I’m here to see my brother-in-law and I need your resources. I don’t have as many friends on the outside as you apparently do.”

An obsession? That seemed rather odd. Victor never noticed any sort of obsession with him from Dora. “Which therapist was it? I’ve seen many during my time in Arkham Asylum. There’s a chance I’ve met him or her at some point.”

He did feel odd with that smile Dora was giving her. She seemed to be hiding something. What it was exactly, he wasn’t sure. But once again, instead of voicing his mind, Victor Fries remained silent, jotting down a few notes at the table.

“Yeah, well, my parents have known, but I guess their too ashamed. Their daughter’s just like their son in law now.” Dora laughed, but it wasn’t exactly happy. She’d grown bitter in Arkham and now was getting even worse. All the things she wanted to say threatened to spill from her mouth, but she couldn’t ruin her plans. Victor would pay eventually, but for now, she needed him him.

“I fell into a vat of freezing agents. As I said, I was experimenting with your technology. They threw me in here, I think because I refused to tell them awful, horrible things about you. Those doctors are perverts and liars. They just want to hurt you and Nora. I could allow that.”

“The doctors at Arkham?” Victor said slowly. He could believe that. Strange in particular enjoyed tormenting Victor it seemed and there was the common “joke” that if you were a doctor at Arkham Asylum, you were either stupid, go insane and join the inmates, die, or a combination of any of the three. He continued to bite his tongue.

“So you tried to replicate my own technology? I’m suspecting that was one of the reasons why you’ve come to see me with the help of your suit.”

“Yes, they think I must have some… obsession with you.” Dora laughed as if the idea was ludicrous.

Dora frowned hard at this information.

“Lucky you…” Nora hadn’t even thought to come visit her. Not even a phone call. Dora said bitterly, “My own parents don’t even visit. It’s like I have some disease.” Who needed them any way, Dora thought. All they did was fawn over Nora and her perfect husband. Well, he wasn’t so perfect now, was he?

“Guess that doesn’t matter now, huh, Victor? Just you and me in here now.” She said darkly.

“I didn’t know you were in Arkham. Nora was equally surprised when I said I thought I saw you” he replied. He couldn’t trust his memory when he did see her. Strange’s drug had been taking full effect and it had been rather difficult overall to recall anything that had happened. His mind was like water at that time. The moment he tried to grab at a memory, he could only hold it for so long before it dripped away into nothingness.

“What did happen to you?” he asked. “I was just as surprised to discover what had happened to you.”

“Yeah, well, my parents have known, but I guess their too ashamed. Their daughter’s just like their son in law now.” Dora laughed, but it wasn’t exactly happy. “Good…” He talked about a cure like it was a good thing. From the way he spoke it seemed to her that they were now immortal? Or at least he assumed so. If that was the case, why bother being human again? Humans died, they got sick and died. This way they wouldn’t have to worry about that. But then, Dora thought bitterly, he probably hoped to return to Nora, who would, of course, have him back. The thought of it made her sick with jealousy.

“I found a place.” She didn’t want to get stuck here for longer than she had to be. She wasn’t sure how long she could control her rage at Victor. And she wasn’t going to tell him where it was either.

“Have you seen Nora?” Dora jiggled her bare foot restlessly.

“I understand” Victor said, giving a small nod. She would have undoubtedly found a place to stay. However he hoped she would remain safe. Arkham City was a dangerous place to be and he was sure that Strange would have no trouble hurting them in this criminal run city.

He paused when he heard Dora ask that question. Pausing he eventually said “I have. A few times now, but we didn’t speak until the day before I gave myself up. My request to Prof. Strange was to spend my last day with Nora. We saw one another and we talked.” They had talked for so long and every moment, Victor longed for the day to go slower. He had missed Nora intensely. He missed her so much and he had to leave in order to turn himself in.

Life was cruel like that. He knew it so well.

Dora frowned hard at this information.

“Just make sure I won’t end up a puddle, Victor. That’s all I need for now.” Her tone was a bit annoyed that he was harping on about a cure. Why bother with a cure? She wasn’t hindered by this, in fact it was the strongest she’d felt in a long time.

Her thin arm was thrust forward and offered to him.

She laughed, watching, remembering when she’d first met him and how naive she had been.

“We sure have come a long way…” She wasn’t sure if it was up or down quite yet. Probably down, down the rabbit hole into a world the would have seemed improbable in the past.

Wiping a spot on her arm with the rubbing alcohol, Victor took the syringe and took his blood sample. “Of course. I have not forgotten your first request for being here.” Pulling away the needle, Victor got a band aid and covered the puncture wound.

Walking to his lab, he set the needle down and asked “Do you have a place to stay? I was lucky that the GCPD was unoccupied.” Even with the security systems in place, it was something he was sure would have been ransacked the moment a few inmates learned about it.

“Good…” He talked about a cure like it was a good thing. From the way he spoke it seemed to her that they were now immortal? Or at least he assumed so. Dora was apprehensive to let him have her blood, but she supposed he would need it to study her condition. Since finding out how different she was from Victor she couldn’t help but want to keep it that way. His idea of curing her made her anxious.

“I’d rather not be cured, quite yet. This place is dangerous and I like to be able to protect myself. I’ve already been attacked once.” And since then the gangs had heard what she could do and hadn’t bothered with her.

“You’re welcome to the blood, however, if you feel it’s necessary to assess my condition.”

“Even still Dora, making the cure could take time. The time we have in Arkham City will be quite some time. Depending on how similar our conditions are, I would not be surprised if like me, you now have an over abundance of time.” He would make sure his time was not wasted.

He approched her with a needle and rubbing alcohol. He’d make sure everything was clean before proceeding. “Stick out your arm” he asked. This was a very different Victor from the one who would be too obsessed with his work and sometimes even forget to eat. A Victor that seemed almost bumbling at points when he worked at Gothcorp.

“Just make sure I won’t end up a puddle, Victor. That’s all I need for now.” Her tone was a bit annoyed that he was harping on about a cure. Why bother with a cure? She wasn’t hindered by this, in fact it was the strongest she’d felt in a long time.

Dora moved to the offered seat and sat down, crossing one leg over the other.

“I don’t know if it’ll be necessary at all. I’ve felt fine in most buildings I’ve gone into, even if their heat was working. But I want to make sure I don’t die.” She refused to die in this place. That’s what they wanted her to do, after all.

“I’d want mine to be lighter than yours any way. I have to rely on my ability to move rather than notoriety.” She gave him a pointed look with those red eyes of her’s.

“It was my own fault, really.” That much she would admit. She got cocky. “I wanted to get rid of all the men in Gotham City, then I only wanted to get rid of the costumed villains. It would have worked too. But Batgirl foiled me and knocked me into a vat of chemical mostly comprised of nitrogen I figure. I was using your technology…” She knew it best and it had been so easy to get her hands on.

Light weight and easier to move around in? Victor could do that. Dora sounded very much like Killer Frost and the Icicle family in that aspect. They had powers over the cold but were able to sustain themselves in heated areas. Victor was not so fortunate.

He was tempted to ask why Dora had gone through with her plan. Why did she wanted to get rid of men and the costumed villains? Perhaps he did know but he held his tongue. “May I have a blood sample from you?” Victor asked. “I’m wondering if you did fall into different chemicals if you by chance can be cured.”

Dora was apprehensive to let him have her blood, but she supposed he would need it to study her condition. Since finding out how different she was from Victor she couldn’t help but want to keep it that way. His idea of curing her made her anxious.

Dora tried to seem unfazed, but there were several things that she hadn’t covered in therapy that she probably should have.

“Yes. It’s not a predicament quite yet. As you can see I have no freeze suit.” That much would be obvious, that and the fact she was walking around in torn and muddy Arkham scrubs.

“Not that I need one…at least not at the moment. I think the stuff I fell into was a different sort of chemical mix than what you fell into. I’ve noticed some…difference between us. I thought seeking you out would be the best thing to do.” For that reason, and so she could keep a closer eye on him.

“Besides, we should really stick together. These streets aren’t exactly safe for a girl alone, frozen or not.” The short woman indicated her torn shirt. She’d mended it by tying the scraps together, but it had obviously nearly been torn off her.

Strange’s warning echoed inside his head. Winter could be fine for the iceman but come Spring, it would be a whole different story without his special suit. The same could possibly be said about Dora.

“Please take a seat” Victor offered. There were countless ones all around the GCPD lobby. Freeze had yet to get rid of the excess ones. His base was still being worked on. “So you wish for me to construct a suit for you? The materials needed are not very easy. The most I can do on short notice is make a suit based on one of my older, non-offensive designs. Even then, it will take time and patience.”

Victor went to his lab station and began to look over his notes. “I was unaware of your accident, or even your powers. Do you mind if I ask? This is all necessary if I wish to make you an ideal suit.”

Dora stepped in, her bare feet making little noise on the solid floor.

“What, I’m not allowed to come see my brother-in-law? The brother-in-law who saved my sister? Who kept her from her family? Don’t be so suspicious. Besides I need your help.” Her tone changed several times in the course of her talking, from on edge, to completely over it and back to the simpering sweet tone, in that order.

Dora was dressed in her Arkham scrubs, no freeze suit, not protection from the elements, her shoes, she had found, were too wimpy for the terrain and had fallen off somewhere. Arkham didn’t make shoes so people could run in them.

Victor couldn’t help but feel somewhat guilty over this. He loved Nora and did everything in his power to help her, but the more time others had looked at it, people had pointed out Victor’s motivations were selfish. Yet he could not let Nora go…not like so many others.

“My help?” Victor asked, perplexed. He looked over Dora briefly. Confused, he started to make his way towards the makeshift lab. Motioning for Dora to follow him, he asked “What is your predicament Dora?”

Dora tried to seem unfazed, but there were several things that she hadn’t covered in therapy that she probably should have.
